Post-Doc Fellow / LecturerAgricultural and Development Economics
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of the University of Goettingen has an opening for a post-doc fellow / lecturer. The position, which is within the Division of International Food Economics and Rural Development headed by Professor Qaim, is available immediately (starting date negotiable) and is paid at the salary scale TVL-E13 (full time). The contract will initially be for three years, but can be renewed upon successful performance.
The position:The post-doc fellow / lecturer will plan and implement economics research and teaching related to issues of food security and rural development in developing countries. Current research projects in the Division are on linking smallholder farmers to high-value markets, agricultural innovation and technology adoption, and impacts of different rural development policies on agricultural productivity, poverty, and nutrition. Most of the analyses employ applied econometrics techniques with micro data. The candidate will be expected to participate in existing projects but also develop own initiatives for new projects on related topics. There is the possibility for a habilitation (higher doctoral degree in the German system) based on several high-quality journal publications.
Requirements:The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in agricultural economics or a related discipline with first publication success. Proven familiarity with quantitative techniques in applied economics (especially econometrics) is required. Experience with carrying out research projects in developing countries, including the implementation of farm and household surveys, and with attracting research grants from external funding organizations would be an asset. Excellent oral and written English language skills are required, and German language skills would be an advantage.
