The Chair of Public Economics at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of Georg-August-University Göttingen invites applications for two

 

Research/Teaching Positions

(doctoral student or postdoctoral researcher).

 

Job description: The chair’s focus is public economics, with current specializations in fiscal federalism, publicly provided education, political economics, and taxation. We perform both basic research and policy consulting in these areas. The position holders will do research in these or any related, interesting fields and teach microeconomics and public economics. As a doctoral student, you are expected to write your dissertation; as a postdoc you have the opportunity to prepare a Habilitation.

 

The contracts start on May 1st, 2010 or at the earliest possible later date and are initially limited to two years, with a possibility of extension for another three years. Salary is based on the collective bargaining agreement of the German states (TV-L, salary level 13). A doctoral student will be employed for up to 75% of a full position; for a postdoc, a 100% position is available.

 

Requirements: Applicants for a doctoral position should have an excellent university degree (master or diploma) in economics or related fields. Postdoctoral candidates must be able to publish research in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. A strong background in microeconomic theory or econometrics and interest in public economics are required. Candidates who, in addition, are able to communicate policy related results to a non-specialist audience will be given special attention.
